Description
This bi-centennial anniversary medal is dated Feb. 20, 1776 - Feb. 20, 1976 and measures approx. 1 1/4" and has a smooth edge.The American Union Lodge No. 1 was orignally organized in Roxbury, MA on February 10th, 1776 by Connecticut soldiers in the Continental Army. Chartered on February 15th by Past Master Capt. Jonathan Heart, it was a military traveling lodge that met where and when it could, until it permanently settled in Marietta, Ohio in 1790. The lodge's name was suggested by Benjamin Franklin and the seal was engraved by Paul Revere. This lodge was home to MWB Rufus Putnam, the first Grand Master of Ohio, elected in January, 1808 when The Grand Lodge of Ohio was formally created. Likely made of pewter or nickle with the condition as evidenced by the scans.
