Description
vintage PENN pin-up skirt hem marker - dressmaker tool - marked 7-24"Description:
this vintage dress maker tool allows you to pin up the hems of skirts / dresses / shorts / capris on someone else
it consists of sturdy metal legs attached to a vertical wooden ruler (measurements start at 7" and go to 24")
the numbers don't correspond to height above the ground, since 7" is near the base.
the height of the ruler allows you to pin hems for maxi skirts to knee-length skirts
the adjustable metal marking / pinning device is labeled "PENN", "Patent Applied For", and "Japan"
the metal piece has a wingnut to slide it up and down the wooden ruler
there is a hinged arm that can squeeze closed to hold the fabric in place, the two pieces are "W" shaped and have holes to slide the pins through, so that when the arm is opened, the pin is in the fabric. sewing websites recommend pinning through just one layer of fabric, then ironing the hem at the pins and moving the pins up where the hem will be sewed.
the rectangular portion off to the side is intended to hold pins - you can add a pincushion or a magnetic strip
Condition:
good vintage condition - sold "as is" - it has these known issues as shown in the pictures:
- abraded wood next to the word 'skirt marker' (10-11" markings)
- surface scratches on the metal
- rectangular pin-holder is empty (add your own pincushion or a magnetic strip to hold pins).
Measurements:
- 19" tall
- 6.5" wide at base; 7.5" wide including the rectangular pin-holder
- 4" deep at base
- 4.5" depth of swing arm
