    Description

    An awesome pair of
    right-handed
    steel scissors or shears, this
    older pair of
    vintage
    (or antique)
Wiss "steel forged No. 20" scissors, featuring "inlaid" steel construction, was made in Newark, NJ
    USA
. This is the kind of tool that was meant to be kept and cared for and used by craftsmen--and indefinitely. These
    pre-owned
scissors are not merely retro--they are
    magnificent! Grand!
One cannot pick them up without wanting to cut something--and they are up to the task! They cut thin printer paper, multiple sheets of coated stock, cereal box paperboard, corrugated cardboard, and thin quilted fabric cleanly and with little effort (see photo).
    These so-called
    "bent trimmers"
are merely old; they are by no means worn out!
    Weighing approximately
    11.1 ounces (316 grams)
, they are heavy and strong, and aged to perfection. Their patina is beautiful. Quality, usefulness, and durability were characteristic of the Wiss line. A 1941 Wiss catalog page describes similar scissors; see http://jwissandsons.com/1940s/1941/w08.htm. Seller is not a scissors collector, but he recognizes quality when he sees it. If anyone can better date the manufacture of these scissors, seller would be interested to hear from them!
Seller can think of no important condition issues or problems to describe. Blade edges are clean and smooth and points are intact. The handles are missing most of their original black enamel paint, and the blades are missing most of whatever plating they may have worn. Wiss logos are faint. The top edge of one blade carries an almost hammered look (see photo), and the pair is clean and not rusty. Note too that the blades are bolted, not screwed, together.
